I often get asked what it means to “cut,” “print then cut,” “weed,” and “score;” this is incredibly confusing for folks new to Cricut. Let me give you a brief explanation, and then you can watch the video.
Cut: You use this operation when you want to cut a piece of material; there are different types of cuts based on the machines you’re using. Cricut Maker, Explore, and Joy all have a basic cut operation. Cricut Maker has a couple more types, like wavy and perforation cut.
Print then cut: For this operation, you will need an Inkjet-printer and either a Cricut Maker or Explore; this operation is NOT available in Cricut Joy. Remember, you can only print then cut a max dimension of 6.75″ x 9.25″.
Weed: this is a process used to remove extra material for your design. You mainly use it with Iron-On and Adhesive Viny. If you don’t have 20/20 vision, I recommend getting a Cricut Bright pad.
Score: It is used to help you make folds, mainly when making cards and boxes.
