Farmhouse signs are very in right now; you can see them all over stores, but did you know that you can use your cutting machines, Cricut or Cameo, to make one? It took me a while to get a hold in the perfect method to create a wood sign. I have tried a couple of techniques, but the one you’re going to see in the video tutorial is the best. I first tried to make a wood sign a couple of years ago; the result was okay, but I’ve learned a lot since then:
- It is best if you used removable adhesive vinyl. Remember, there are different types of vinyl; check this post if you’re not familiar with this material.
- Modge Podge, this is essential to get the best result. You only need a thin coat; if you put too much, you’re going to ruin the sign. Less is more.
- Paint the wood with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®, you can use other brands, but this is my favorite, and it’s worth the price.
- You don’t need to get any fancy acrylic paint; Apple Barrel is the way to go, only $1 for a 2oz bottle.
- Dry time, I got better results when I speed up the Mod Podge and paint drying time with my hairdryer.
- Practice makes perfect. Start making a small sign like hi or hello, nothing to complicate. The worse thing you can do is to try and make an intricate design; start simple and build your way up to something complex.
