If you’ve been following me for a while you may already know that one of my favorites stores to look for inspiration in is Anthropologie. Last year I saw a beautiful pom pom wreath on their website and I remember wanting to make my own version of it for Christmas but I just didn’t have enough time. However this year I had put it in my agenda and came up with what I think was a simply a lovely version of a classic wreath.
This was my first time making pom-poms and, as always, I learned a couple things along the way. I discovered that there is a tool that can be used to build pom-poms that you can buy; it’s generally called a Pom Pom Maker. However, in this post, I decided not to purchase the tool and instead made the DIY version of it. I decided to make the “Pom-pom Maker” because many of the people that follow my blog, videos and Etsy shop may not have access to it.
To make the pom-pom maker use a thin, but solid, piece of cardboard; if you have “mat board” use instead because it’ll last a lot longer. There’s no sense to buy mat board because it’s kind of pricey, but you may have it laying around the house it’s a great alternative to cardboard; you may be able to scavenge some “Mat board” from old picture frames. When making the pom-poms remember the more yard you use the better and while you want to the yarn to taunt you don’t want it to be overly tight. Over tightening the yarn on the Pom-pom maker will make cutting the yarn difficult.
As you’ll see in the video tutorial I make my own wreath frame that works great but if you prefer you can buy one. I recommend buying a Styrofoam or solid frame and I’d skip getting the wireframe because it’s a little hard to work with it. That said, if you already have a wireframe you could use it. I’ve found wrapping a wire wreath frame with thick ribbon will provide a solid enough surface to glue pom-poms on to.
This is a really beautiful Pom Pom Wreath and making pom-poms is fun and easy albeit a little time-consuming.

Si me sigues por buen tiempo, ya sabes que una de mis tienda favoritas para buscar inspiración es Anthropoligie, el año pasado me acuerdo haber visto en su pagina web este hermosa corona hecha con pompones, tenia pensado hacer una con mi estilo, pero no tuve tiempo. Sin embargo este año puse ese proyecto en mi agenda.
Esta fue mi primera vez haciendo pompones y como siempre aprendí algunas cosas. Por si no lo saben hay en el mercado un producto llamado pompom maker, este aparto te ayuda a hacer pompones de una forma mas fácil. Decidí no comprarlo y usar la versión DIY hecha con cartón, ya que se que muchos de ustedes se les puede hacer difícil encontrar el aparato.
Para hacer la versión DIY del pom-pom maker necesitan cartón delgado pero solida, si tienen cartón de cuadros incluso mejor, porque este es mas solido. No tiene sentido comprar cartón de cuadros porque tiende a ser costoso, sin embargo tal vez tienen unos pedazos por la casa. El cartón de cuadros es el que se usa en base en portarretratos o cuadros. No se olvide que si quieren que su pom-pom se vea bien tienen que usar una buena cantidad de lana. Cuando estén enrollando la lana en el maker no lo hagan tan ajustado porque esto hará que sea mas difícil cortar la lana luego.
Como veras en el video hice mi propio aro de corona con un pedazo de cartón grueso, pero si lo deseas también puedes comprar uno, si este es el caso te recomiendo comprar el de unicel o cualquier otro que sea solido, el marco de alambre no funciona tan bien para este proyecto, pero si ya lo tienes en la casa lo puedes usar, solo antes envuélvelos con cinta o fieltro, de esta manera puedes pegar los pompones sobre este.
