When purchasing a house there are so many things to do, projects that might need to be undertaken, and moving that need be done. I thought at that the time we moved in we would tackle a mess of projects just as soon as possible, but this wasn’t the case. I’ve wanted to change our staircase from day one, however, I also wanted to change the floor, paint the walls, the installation of can lighting, trim all of the windows, and update just about everything in the house; as you see my brain is working overtime. In the end, I begin wanting to do everything which results in doing nothing.
For this project, the staircase, my husband told me to hire a company instead of trying to do this ourselves. We decided a professional was needed to ensure we have a quality job and that we’re up to code in our home. The company we hired to build and install the staircase was fantastic. They gave us the option to demo the old staircase ourselves and they provided tips on what needed to be demoed. Everything was totally up-front. The company didn’t stain or paint the wood and they didn’t pretend they did. They were upfront with what they offered and their quote reflected that. Having an installer took care of the hard laborious parts but left the fun things to me (painting). This gave me the ability to paint everything exactly as I was envisioning, while also saving a bundle. Painting the newels and handrails is not difficult but it is time-consuming. It was particularly time-consuming because I was working toward a very specific look while also accenting the farmhouse feel we were already building.
This project is showing how to get the look of a farmhouse staircase with brand new components. However, it’s absolutely possible to use the techniques I’m illustrating in this post and video on an existing staircase. The methodology is useful in most homes and will provide an updated look even if demolishing and installing a new staircase and handrail is impossible.

The chandelier is a gorgeous Quorum Salento Wide Persian White Chandelier with an antique finish. This is a large chandelier 32″ wide by 28″ high. It is perfect for my foyer, which is 20′ to the ceiling. I wanted something big but not overpowering and this chandelier is absolutely perfect. It’s airy, it’s big, it’s bright, it’s perfect, and it completes farmhouse look.

Cuando uno compra una casa, hay tantas cosas que hacer, uno tiene muchos proyectos en mente y cambios que uno quiere realizar. Yo pensé que ni bien nos mudásemos íbamos a comenzar todos los proyectos, pero este no fue el caso. He querido cambiar nuestra escalera desde el primer día, sin embargo, también quería cambiar el piso, pintar las paredes, instalar la luces empotrada, enmarcar las ventanas y puertas y darle mi propio estilo a todo lo que esta en la casa. Como ves, mi cerebro está trabajando horas extras, pero como dicen el que mucho aprieta poco abarca.
Para este proyecto de las escaleras, mi esposo me dijo que contrate una empresa en lugar de tratar de hacer esto nosotros mismos. Decidimos que necesitábamos un profesional para garantizar que el trabajo este de acuerdo a los códigos de construcción. La compañía que contratamos para construir e instalar las escaleras fue fantástica. Nos dieron la opción de hacer una demostración de la antigua escalera (muros bajos) nosotros mismos y hasta nos dieron consejos en como hacerlo. Desde el principio la compañía nos dijo que ellos no pintaban a tenían la madera. Pero que si nos recomendaban a alguien que lo hiciera. Para mi esto era perfecto porque yo sabia que lo podía pintar yo misma y obtener los resultados que yo quería. Pintar los postes y barandal no es difícil, pero si laborioso.
Este video muestra cómo obtener el aspecto una escalera estilo Farmhouse con componentes nuevos. Sin embargo, es absolutamente posible utilizar las técnicas que ilustro en el video en una escalera existente.
