The number of things you can make with a cutting machine always surprise me. Did you know that you can cut fabric with a Cameo3? A lot of people that sew are more familiar with this, especially in the quilting community, but otherwise, I’ve found, this is not generally known. I love trying new projects with my Cameo3, and cutting fabric is the latest project of the day!
Cutting fabric with the Cameo3 requires the material to be stabilized. Stabilizing can be done with a stiffening spray or HeatnBond, in the video tutorial I’m going use HeatnBond but know that’s not the only option.
After learning more about my Cameo3 and how well it cuts fabrics I’ve put together some recommendations will help folks be successful in their projects. First, stick to thin materials like cotton. Second, avoid intricate designs; the more lines the design has, the more possibilities there will be a bad cut.
The Silhouette Cameo 4 is going to be released in September 2019, and from the initial press releases, it looks like it’s going to be fantastic. Cameo4 will have a rotary blade, which means it’ll have the ability to cut fabric without needing to stabilize it, which is very exciting! I cannot wait to have one and play with it!’
