What do you need to get started with your Cricut

December 20, 2020 Leave a Comment

I get asked frecuently, what are the devices, tools, and accessories you need to start using your Cricut?

Here is a list that will help you, don’t forget to watch the video below.

  1. First, you need a computer (Windows or Mac) or a mobile device (iOS or Android). Check the system requirements. Design Space is the application that comes free with your Cricut cutting machine; this application is not comparable with Chromebooks.
  2. You’ll need some tools and accessories; if you haven’t bought a Cricut yet, purchasing a Cricut bundle is a good idea because it comes with tools, accessories, and materials. You will always get more from your money when you get a bundle. My favorite bundle is the essential bundle because it comes with the tools and accessories I use the most. If you want to try, more products get the everything bundle.
  3. If you want to buy the tools separately, I recommend getting the essential kit; it has the tools that I use the most, like the weeding tool, scraper tool, and my all-time favorite, the trimmer.
  4. The blades you buy should be based on the projects you want to make. My recommendations, if you have a Cricut Maker and want to cut thicker material like leather or foam, get the knife blade. If you have Cricut Explore and want to cut thicker material like glitter cardstock or faux leather, I recommend getting the deep point blade.
  5. The mats you buy should be based on the projects you want to make; you need to use the right mat for the job (Lightgrip, Standardgrip, Stronggrip, or FabricGrip).
  6. If you’re planning to make projects using iron-on often, you’ll need to get and Cricut EasyPress.
  7. If you’re planning to use adhesive vinyl, you’ll always need to use transfer tape; these two go together.
  8. If you want to use your Cricut Maker or Explore using the print then cut feature, you will need to use an inkjet printer. You can use any inkjet printer you like, but I recommend the Canon Pixma, preferably one that feeds paper from the top.
  9. Two must-haves for any crafter are the self-healing mat and the TrueControl knife blade.

Watch the video below.
