First I just wanted to thank my friends of Delta Faucet for providing me with most of the bathroom fixtures for my bathroom remodel project.If you’ve followed me for a while you may know that my husband and I’ve been working on our house trying to make it less of a cookie cutter and more representative of our personal. In the middle of our work we discovered a leak in the grout (tile) caused by poor workmanship, which eventually lead to a tile falling off the wall. Could you believe that the builder simply glued the tile onto the sheetrock without a vapor barrier or membrane? You can see this in the demo day video. It was all a little startling and came at a fairly inopportune time, as we had been knee deep in several other projects. Being that the tile damage was casing rot and water damage the master bathroom renovations moved straight to our top priority.
Since we have to remove the tile from our shower I convince my husband that we needed to remodel the whole our bathroom updating everything. With Kevin on board for the renovation work I dove head long into Pinterest and created an inspiration board called “Master Bathroom” After some looking around I knew what my color palette was going to be for this project and I knew the style of the fixers I wanted.
I discovered the Delta Faucet website as I searched for the trim styles I wanted. The site is easy to navigate and intuitive which allowed me to construct complete job projects in terms of rough-in valves and trim out. The project creation system even allowed us to print everything as a PDF, which is great for review and to portability when purchasing from local suppliers. The best part really is how easy it is to search collections, styles, finishes, and price.
When I was designing the bathroom I wanted the valves to really pop so I decided to go with a bronze finish. After seeing what was out there I chose Champagne Bronze from Delta, which is an exquisite finish; it’s literally exactly what I was looking for and only Delta has it. For the style I went with the ”Cassidy collection” for everything exception of the showerhead. After talking with my husband about the showerhead (He’s likely the one that will use it the most, he takes showers FOREVER) we decided to go with the In2ition®. The main reason we chose this style for the showerhead was because it has a two-in-one option. The Dual Function unit gives us a hand held sprayer along with a full stationary sprayer and in our opinion it’s extremely innovative. For the double vanity we went with wall-mounted faucets. Delta valves were built to last and come with a lifetime warranty and being that we were renovating our bathroom due to shoddy workmanship and questionable quality products we wanted something that was going to raise the value of our home while also giving us something that was going to last. Just in case you we’re not familiar with wall faucets the plumbing is all within the wall and only the handles and spout are seen. They really look amazing but are hard to service should there ever be a leak. Once again, this is why we went with Delta. The valve bodies are solid brass and with a Lifetime warranty in hand we’re resting easy that nothing like what forced us to undertake the master bathroom project earlier than expected would ever happen with these valves.
Here is how we did it:
Once all of the demolition was complete, and the cleaned up, we roughed-in all of the new fixtures. This required us to fur-out the wall for the double vanity, rebuild the tub deck on the front of the tub to be retiled and to set the roman tub valve, and to move the shower body to the center of the wall for the new walk-in shower.
I mentioned before that we’re using wall-mounted faucets on this project. While they look fantastic, using new wall-mounted faucets on an existing home may be a little tricky. The valves have to be mounted in the wall, which means that everything has to align just right for the valves to work without having to do some framing, drilling, and cutting. In our case we had to fur-out the double vanity wall so that we could set the new valves. Furring out the wall is basically building a new wall on top the existing one. This allowed us to run new electrical for our vanity lighting and mount the wall-mounted valves exactly where we wanted them all without having to drill into the existing structure. In our case furring out the wall was needed because the existing wall was structural and could (should) not be cut into. Furthermore the wall was not using studs that were 16 inches on center (the standard for construction in the US), they weren’t ever using a consistent standard across the wall so setting the valves in a way that made them evenly spaced was not going to be possible, even if we could have cut into the wall in a substantial way. Had this been new construction, we’d simply have made sure the wall was built to accommodate wall-mounted valves and life would’ve been a lot easier. All this said, I think we made the right choice. Don’t be discouraged or scared away from wall-mounted valves just be aware that it may take a little extra work to get everything just right.
Moving the shower was fairly straightforward, we simply drilled a couple 5/8in holes and moved set the new shower valve body in the center of the new walk-in shower. We did everything in 1/2″ copper tubing and soldered all of the fittings.
As for the tub, the front of the rub has some fairly terrible framing. To fix this we built on top of the existing pony wall, which reinforced the entire deck making it more stable and able to be tiled. With the new framing in place we set the new delta rough-in roman rub valve soldering the copper tube in-place ensuring that everything remain secure and leak free as these pipes will be inaccessible once everything was completely covered in tiled.
If you’re wondering whom we got to do all of this plumbing and electrical, the answer is nobody; we did it all ourselves. How is that possible? How could I trust my nerdy husband (software developer) to do the job? The answer is Kevin’s dad is a plumber, so he learned from his father, so he knows many of the trades pretty well. I know what are you thinking… lucky you 😉 I know I have the complete package, my husband is not also smart but he’s also SUPER handy.

En primer lugar quiero dar las gracias a mis amigos de Delta Faucet por proporcionarme la mayoría de los accesorios de baño para esta remodelación. Si me has seguido durante un tiempo, sabrás que mi esposo y yo hemos estado trabajando en nuestra casa tratando de hacerla lucir como un hogar único en vez de una más del montón de casas pre fabricadas de los suburbios.
La decisión de remodelar el baño fue algo que se dio debido a que encontramos una fuga de agua a través de uno de los azulejos, los cuales no fueron colocados propiamente ¿Puedes creer que el constructor simplemente pego los azulejo sobre el sheetrock sin una barrera de vapor o membrana a prueba de agua? Puedes ver mas detalles en el vídeo del día de demolición. No nos quedó otra que darle mas prioridad a este proyecto. Ya que tenemos que quitar el azulejo de nuestra ducha, convencí a mi esposo que de una vez remodelemos el baño de la forma que nos gusta. Con Kevin a bordo para el trabajo de renovación me fue directamente a Pinterest en busca de inspiración para mi nuevo baño. Arme un board de inspiración llamado “Master Bathroom” que lo llene con todas los proyectos que podría utilizar en esta remodelación.
Navegando por las redes llegue a la página de Delta Faucet mientras buscaba los estilos de acabado que quería. La página web de Delta esta muy bien diseñada y es muy fácil de navegar, además te permite construir proyectos agregando a este todos los acabados que necesitas y luego los puedes salvar como PDF e imprimir, lo que es genial así lo puedes tener a la mano cuando hagas tus compras o vayas a la tienda.
La página web también te indica donde puedes comprar los producto ya sea online o en un distribuidor local. Puedes filtrar tu búsqueda basada en colecciones, estilos, acabados y precios.
Cuando estaba diseñando el baño quería que los llaves realmente resaltan así que decidí ir con un acabado de bronce. Al final me decidí por el acabado Champagne Bronce de Delta, que es un acabado hermoso; es exactamente lo que estaba buscando y sólo Delta lo tiene. Para el estilo escogí la “colección Cassidy” con excepción de la ducha. Después de hablar con mi esposo sobre la ducha ya que el es el que se da baños largo decidimos ir con el In2ition ®. La razón principal por la que elegimos este estilo para la ducha era porque tiene una opción de dos en uno. La unidad de doble función nos da un manija de mano junto con un rociador estacionario completo y en nuestra opinión es extremadamente innovador. Para el doble lavatorio fuimos con llaves (válvulas, canilla) de pared. Las llaves de Delta fueron construidas para durar y vienen con una garantía de por vida y ya que estábamos renovando nuestro baño debido a la mano de obra de mala calidad y productos de calidad cuestionables decidimos que queríamos algo que iba a elevar el valor de nuestra casa y que va a durar por años. En caso de que no estés familiarizados con las llaves de pared, tienes que saber que la plomería va dentro de la pared y sólo las manijas y el pico se ven. Este tipo de llaves se ven espectaculares pero es importante usar llaves de buena calidad para evitar cualquier fuga que dañe sus paredes y su casa, esta es una de las razones por la cual escogimos las llaves de Delta. Las válvula están muy bien hechas y son de sólido latón y con una garantía de por vida estamos seguros de que no tendremos ningún problema.
Así es cómo lo hicimos:
Una vez terminada la demolición llegó la hora de instalar todas las partes internas de las llaves. Para el caso de las llaves empotradas en la pared que usaremos en los lavadores tuvimos que construir una pared delante de la existente. Si bien este tipo de llaves se ven fantásticas, el uso de uso de estas llaves en una casa existente puede ser un poco difícil. Las válvulas tienen que ser montadas en la pared, lo que significa que todo tiene que alinearse. La solución mas fácil que encontramos fue la construcción de una nueva pared en la parte de delante de la existente. Esto nos permitió mover los cables eléctricos para la iluminación de los lavatorios y montar las válvulas en la pared exactamente donde queríamos todos sin tener que perforar o hacer cortes en la estructura existente. Si hubiera sido nueva construcción, simplemente nos habríamos asegurado de que la pared estuviera construida para acomodar las válvulas en la pared y la vida hubiera sido mucho más fácil. Creo que el método que tomamos fue la decisión correcta para nuestra casa. No se desanime o tengan miedo de las válvulas montadas en la pared sólo tenga en cuenta que puede tomar un poco de trabajo extra para que todo quede como ustedes quieren.
Mover la ducha fue sencillo, simplemente perforamos un par de agujeros de 5/8 pulgadas y movimos el nuevo cuerpo de la válvula de ducha en el centro de la nueva ducha. Kevin hizo todo con tubo de cobre de 2” y soldó todas las uniones.
En cuanto a la bañera, el enmarcado de esta no era el mejor y para arreglar esto reforzamos la parte superior para hacerla mas . Kevin instalo todos las partes necesarias para colocar el caño de la tina, asegurándose que todo esté bien hecho libre de fugas ya que estas tuberías serán inaccesibles una vez que todo estaba completamente cubierto de azulejos.
Si te estás preguntando quien hizo la plomería y la electricidad. ¡Nosotros lo hicimos! ¿Cómo es eso posible? ¿Cómo podría confiar en mi nerdy esposo (Ingeniero de Sistemas) para hacer el trabajo? La respuesta es fácil, el papá de Kevin es plomero, así que Kevin aprendió estas labores en el negocio de su padre.
