DIY Plate Wall

January 29, 2017 Leave a Comment

It took me a long while but I’ve finally made my own plate wall, which I love. This is a really affordable project and it looks amazing and I’m not sure anyone would be able to guess that something so lovely could cost less than $45. I purchased all of my plates at the thrift store (Goodwill and Salvation Army). I decided to use white plates with texture and with gold-rimmed decorations, which I purchased for less than $2 each (well one was $4) As you will see in the video tutorial after placing the plate on the wall I decided to paint gold rims around some of the plates I wish I thought of this earlier; painting the plates was easier though I spent too much time searching stores looking for gold-rimmed plates when I could have just bought white ones and painted them. At the moment I’m pretty happy with the subtle gold rim I made though I might add a more bold design in the future. I used 14 plates in total which covers an area of 3ft x 5ft (90cm x 150cm).

Hanging the plates is the most expensive part of this project. I was going to buy dish hangers but after checking the reviews and prices I decided to go DIY. I used Gorilla tape because it has amazing reviews compare to other kinds of “duct” tapes, if it can hold pipes in place I’m sure it’s won’t have any problems keeping my plates in place. I also bough D rings online because of the price though they’re generally available at any craft or hardware store. I also used a picture hanging set but regular nails bent in a hook shape would work too; should a hanging set not be available.

I hope you like this DIY and if you make it don’t forget to share a pic I’d love to see how it comes out.
